2021 has been dubbed ‘the year of digital’ within the electrotechnical industry, with the coronavirus pandemic requiring businesses to utilise technology as remote working and eCommerce become ever more commonplace.

Digitalisation continues to be a key topic as manufacturers,
wholesalers and contractors seek to align their information in order to create a more cohesive and streamlined industry.

Whilst new initiatives and technologies are now beginning to
become the norm, Building Information Modelling remains somewhat in the shadows, despite being conceived in 1973 and saving over £804m public sector pounds in 2013.

A continually evolving working practice, BIM is defined by
‘maturity levels’ from 0 to 3. Level 2 is currently the Global standard and a requirement on all UK public sector construction projects since 2016, with the UK now recognised as the Global leader in BIM technology.

BIM encourages collaboration between all parties involved within the supply chain, from conceptual designers and architects through to manufacturers, wholesalers, contractors, and ultimately maintenance providers.
